Fox entertainment introduces a new channel named FX in the UK.
How is this possible if there is already an offer of more than 300 channels?
First of all, they found the gap in the market. After lots of channels aimed at women, it’s time for men to have their own channel. This ‘men channel’ has nothing to do either with beer-stained lad culture of the past decade, or indeed pornography.
Furthermore, they developed a really good marketing strategy. The concept is to launch two programmes named ‘Mind of the Married Man’ and ‘The Man Show’. Their goal is to put a significant amount of marketing money behind those two programmes to attract new adience.
Moreover, the channel will try to turn those two progammes into cult programmes.
Finally you have to see that you can watch the programmes everywhere, that’s why the channel will be available in seven million satelite homes.

Oprah Winfrey sells her cable TV channel to NBC in $925m deal
Oprah Winfrey, already one of the richest women in the world, sold her cable tv channel for $925m.
A few years ago, Oprah co-founded Oxygen, a television channel aimed at women. The channel reaches 74 million homes, and not only shows established female-centric programmes such as Absolutely Fabulous and Rosanne, but also creates original programming.
The channel was sold 7 years later, despite it’s great succes. A big company like NBC was prepared to pay the sum and hopes by buying the channel to increase their foothold in the advertiser-covered, young, upscale, female demographic. Buying the channel, means for NBC to expand NBC’s cable television portfolio, which already includes the CNBC financial channel, Bravos, USA, Sci-Fi and MSNBC.
By now, Oprah is not only the best-paid television entertainer, she’s also one of the richest woman in the whole entertainment industry.

Big media and the internet
Two years ago, Cbs conducted a new experiment on the internet.
For the first time in America, there was the possibility to watch the games of the country's college basketball teams online. The American broadcast-television network offered those basketball games free of charge, accompanied by advertisements.
Despite the fact that this seemed to be an innovation, Cbs was not the only one trying to develop new media streams. All the big media companies were trying to reach more people via internet or even via their mobile phone.
This phenomenon of new marketing strategies does not only took place in America, but also in our country. Since a few years, we can also watch some channels on the internet… for free! For example: Vijftv and VT4.
So as you can see, even in this small country, the media is trying to reach YOU!!
